Tax Justice Network (TJN) commissions a scoping study of the need for, and potential remit of, a UK-focused tax justice organisation. This finds that there is an unmet need for a domestically-focused tax justice campaign to complement TJN's globally-focused research and policy work.

MAY 2017 |
Tax Justice UK (TJUK) is established, with a remit to champion the role of tax in building a fair society, to advocate for a more progressive tax system, and to campaign against tax avoidance. TJUK publishes an analysis of the manifestos of the main political parties in the UK general election campaign.

JUNE-SEPTEMBER 2017 |
TJUK recruits a board and technical advisors, develops partnerships with a range of organisations including charities, trade unions and think tanks, builds relationships with Parliamentarians, and outlines a provisional two-year strategy based around the Fair Share campaign.

OCTOBER 2017 |
TJUK publishes its Tax Takes report, outlining a range of ways in which the UK tax system could be made more progressive and effective, with contributions from several of its technical advisors.

NOVEMBER 2017
|
TJUK launches a petition in response to the publication of the Paradise Papers, which is handed in to 10 Downing Street with 208,000 signatures, and criticises the Chancellor for failing to take the opportunity to crack down on tax avoidance in the autumn budget.

FEBRUARY 2018 |
Robert Palmer takes over as the first Executive Director of TJUK.

|
Parliament votes in favour of forcing the UK's Overseas Territories to end secret company ownership, after a campaign that includes Tax Justice UK.
